Is your toilet seat broken and you need to replace it? Or do you simply want to change your old-fashioned toilet seat for a more modern one? Please note that installing a toilet seat does not require much plumbing knowledge. You no longer need to call a professional! Just follow the steps below.
How to choose a new seat for your toilet?
In fact, a toilet seat is an accessory that we place above our toilet bowl, as part of hygiene measures in our bathroom. In fact, this element helps retain dirt and stains caused by flushing the toilet. Comfortable and robust, a seat also gives a decorative aspect to our toilet.
If you intend to buy a new seat for your toilet, you must take into account certain criteria, such as seat retention, resistance, lifespan and ease of maintenance. Regarding dimensions, be sure to choose a model that is adaptable to all toilet bowls to avoid possible problems.
In stores, you will find a wide choice of lids offered with various patterns and colors. Some toilet seats have additional options, for example, a fall brake for silent closing or to prevent breakage. There are also models that are padded with foam, equipped with a built-in child seat or even equipped with an integrated motion detector that opens when a person approaches! There are also unclipable models for easy maintenance of the lid using a sponge… It’s up to you to choose what you like best!
Please note that installing a toilet seat does not require plumbing skills. You can start installing this accessory which seems very simple and easy!
The different steps to install a new toilet seat
Remove the old seat
Start by unscrewing by hand the two nuts located under the hinges of the toilet seat, on each side behind the bowl. If this is not possible, use an adjustable wrench or penetrating oil.
Once finished, remove the nuts and washers then lift the assembly to release the old seat. Now you can clean the bowl and take measurements of the two holes so you can choose a new seat suitable for your toilet.
Make a blank edit
Before proceeding with the real assembly, carry out a simulation to understand the assembly mechanism and to know immediately if you have all the elements necessary for installing the new seat. Then sit on a chair with the plan in front of you and a suitable work surface. This test will help you resolve any difficulties you may encounter during assembly. So, you could now find the right solutions rather than kneeling in front of the toilet!
Install the new seat
Before installing the new toilet seat, check that there are no leaks occurring in the toilet or the pipes connected to it. If this is the case, a Paris 8 water leak search is necessary. It is better to seek help from a plumber to stop the flow of water and repair the leak definitively.
If there are no more problems, you can then easily install the new toilet seat: first insert the fixing rods into the holes in the toilet bowl. Make sure that the fixing system is correctly placed on the holes and that the lid completely covers the inside of the bowl flange. If the new cover has tampons, make sure they do not touch the ceramic. Then, screw the gaskets, washers and nuts from below, passing behind the bowl. Pay attention ! Do not tighten the nuts before checking the symmetry of the seat.
Before taking action, take the time to read the assembly instructions. If the operation seems complicated to you, contact a plumbing professional!
