There is nothing that can be as important as health. Diabetics understand this, because a careless mistake can be fatal to them. Indeed, when we talk about blood sugar we are referring to the sugar level present in the blood. This sugar intake is managed by a hormone called insulin. Its absence or deficiency disrupts the quantity of sugar and causes unpleasant effects in the person. All diabetics are advised to get tested regularly. However, when we are faced with an involuntary constraint, we are in pain, in any situation. It is therefore recommended that these people purchase a blood glucose meter.
What is a blood glucose meter?
People with diabetes are required to check their blood sugar levels daily. Sometimes you have to do it several times a day. A blood glucose meter is therefore the ideal equipment to avoid unnecessary risks. It makes it possible to measure the level of glucose present in the blood and therefore, the patient can have control over their diet as well as the frequency of their physical activities. Thanks to this equipment, the attending physician can have an idea of the treatment that should be administered to the patient. You have several types of glucometers which differ depending on the needs of the user. There blood glucose meter selection is sometimes a little confusing, because it is difficult to know the type of functionality that could really meet the person’s needs. On the one hand, you can always get the advice of your doctor to decide which one to choose.
Check your blood sugar level without taking a blood sample
Thanks to technology, patients suffering from diabetes no longer have to endure the prick for each test. Indeed, there is what we call a glucose sensor. Simply place it in the interstitial fluid to determine the level of glucose present in the blood. The results will then be transmitted to a terminal which can be either on a smartphone via an application or on the insulin pump. You have two options, either permanent monitoring which measures the blood sugar level continuously, or flash glucose measurement where you will be required to scan the sensor to get the result.
The different types of blood glucose meters
You have the choice between two devices which differ from each other in their functionalities. What is important is that these two versions display the most important thing which is the sugar level present in the blood. The first only presents clear and instantaneous blood sugar levels. This is enough to manage your food intake or sports activities. The second, for its part, displays the requested results, but in addition to other functionalities which can be very useful such as the blood sugar measurement reminder or alerts in the event of hypo- or hyperglycemia. It also has the possibility of saving data concerning the level of insulin administered.
Compared to the glucose sensor, the blood glucose meter requires a droplet of blood. This droplet will be deposited on a strip or electrode which the reader then analyzes.
